This is because I am their Teacher
by Donna Stone I am their teacher I want my students to be the best they can be I wonder about events that have occurred in their past and what events will occur in their future I listen to comments of "nay- sayers" and those who say "I can't," and it drives me to work harder. This is because I am their teacher Often I see glimpses of what lies ahead for these students who are entrusted to me I feel a sense of pride that I have had a small impact on their lives It is my hope that I have touched their hearts as much as they have touched mine I worry, did they realize that I cared for them, and that I wanted the best for them Did they understand that I believed in them, even when they wanted to give up? This is because I am their teacher I understand that I have a unique ability to shape students' lives I say this, acknowledging the responsibility that I have but Yet I dream that I am not alone in this endeavor Try hard I must Hoping that I instill in them a desire to learn This is because I am their teacher |
